Popular Culture Poster

The class was tasked with doing visual research as well as reading, commenting, and reflecting visually in sketchbooks on popular culture and current news. We also look closely at form, type and image and design process as complete this project. To the left are examples of student posters over the last few years, in GD I.

Symbols and Storytelling

Students do this project in two parts. They first develop a series of 8 different symbols about various processes. We look closely at semiotics and how design can produce a universal language. The second part of the project, the students tell the story about the symbols and the processes in a multipage document. Here they are able to work with grids and typography to tell the story in a consistent yet interesting way.

Postmodern Promotion

With this project we explore many things. We continue to look at current news and popular culture for subjects. We look at historical design styles for visual reference + current trends. We look at form in terms of medium and audience and how best to reach them. The students are asked to create a promotion based on a current topic that references past styles and apply this to a variety of promotional materials.
